Starbucks in Malaysia is operated by Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company Sdn Bhd., a licensee of Starbucks Coffee International Inc. and owned by Berjaya Food Berhad. From its first store opening in Kuala Lumpur on 17 December 1998, Starbucks has expanded to 11 states and all three federal territories across the nation. Currently, there are more than 300 stores throughout Malaysia, including over 40 Drive-Thru stores and 10 Reserve™ stores. After more than twenty-years of operations, Starbucks has grown not only to become the favorite coffee place for Malaysians but also a productive member of communities across the country.
From the very beginning, Starbucks has set itself out to be a different kind of company. Aside from achieving extraordinary coffee experiences, Starbucks has made a business out of human connections, community involvement and the celebration of diversity. It is the inclusion of diverse experiences and perspectives that help create a culture of empowerment at Starbucks. Our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time. At Starbucks Malaysia, we continue to be recognized for our outstanding training and development programs through awards such as ‘Investment in People’ at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2018 (AREA 2018), and ‘Top Companies to Work for in Asia’ at the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability awards in 2017. This is a testament the continuous enrichment Starbucks provides through its learning and development programs, such as the Coffee Master certification program, which allows our partners (employees) to develop their proficiency and skills in all things coffee. Starbucks Coffee Masters are easily identifiable by their black aprons, which acknowledges their coffee knowledge and passion for craft.
Starbucks also offers a unique retail experience through its Starbucks Reserve™ stores, which are immersive spaces that invites our customers to discover and explore some of the rarest, most extraordinary small-lot coffees in the world. In 2016, Starbucks Malaysia also launched the World’s first Starbucks Signing Store in Bangsar Village II, a store which aims to cultivate a culture of empowerment for our deaf and hard-of-hearing partners. Through the Starbucks Signing Store, our deaf and hard-of-hearing partners can develop their self-confidence, self-esteem and self-reliance, thus giving them a sense of pride and accomplishment to lead a functional and fulfilling life. In its efforts to adapt as the world rapidly evolves, Starbucks Malaysia introduced the new drive-thru concept stores in 2009, with consistency in mind. This new platform provided customers the option to enjoy their favorite coffee on the go, or at the store should they prefer to stretch their legs and relax. In Malaysia, Starbucks drive-thru concept stores are located in more than 10 states and federal territories across the country.
Starbucks® is committed to offering the world’s finest coffee while enriching Malaysian’s lives one cup
at a time.
